PORT SUNLIGHT ORCHESTRA

About us

Port Sunlight Orchestra has a long and distinguished history. It has been performing in Wirral for over a century! Check the History section for some details!

We perform

at the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Our concerts are usually one hour long and are free to attend. (There is a retiring collection for those who have been pleased by our performance!) The Gallery is a magnificent setting and worth a visit at any time. Look in the Lady Lever Gallery link for some views.

Our Music

is delightfully varied! It ranges from Baroque , Classical , Romantic, and Impressionist periods, through to contemporary music found in Film, Television, and Radio. As it has been from our earliest days, the common theme through all our programmes is that our music should be accessible, popular, and enjoyable. Check the links for our Forthcoming Events and that for Past Events to see how many titles you recognise.

Our Players

are the most welcoming group to be found! They come together from all walks of life to enjoy making music together and sharing it with all who care to listen. (There’s usually only scant standing room available for our concerts!) Check the Players section for pictures and notes about our current members.

Our Conductor

is marvellous! Our players never take their eyes from him for a second!(*) His name is David Straughan and he deserves a section all to himself. Oh, he’s got one. It’s at the top. It’s called Conductor. See how helpful we are? (* Admittedly, sometimes it’s more than one second…)

Vacancies

arise from time to time as players retire or relocate. These are listed under the Vacancies link above. We always welcome additional strong (grade 7/8) players for our first and second violin sections.
